There are misleading statements in this report. Army Chief claims that his year of birth is 1951 according to Army Adjutant General's document. Govt. of India's Military Secretary cannot overrule this document and allege that the year of birth is 1950.
One can make a theory that someone is forcing him to retire -- by a false allegation tarnishing Gen. Singh's honour -- to choose someone selected by the politico-s as next Army Chief.

Army chief takes govt to court over age row
Monday, January 16, 2012 18:01 IST
Army Chief General VK Singh took the government to court by filing a writ petition over the age row. General VK Singh is upset with the government's decision to fix 1951 as his year of birth.
Singh said this was a battle of honour for him rather than that of his tenure.
General VK Singh is the first Army Chief to take the government to court.
The Army Chief has two sets of date of birth in official records. While the Adjutant General's branch records it to be May 10, 1951, the Military Secretary branch has May 10, 1950 in its data.
On December 30, the Defence Ministry had turned down Gen Singh's plea to change his date of birth to May 10, 1951 which would have given him an extra ten months in office.
