Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Sunday accused the Congress of conspiring against him to derail his fight against black money and corruption. DuringAaj Tak's Seedhi Baat programme, Ramdev alleged that the Congress was behind the Saturday attack on him.
"The attacker, Kamran Siddiqui, can be seen in a picture with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The Congress has to justify that. Secondly, Law Minister Salman Khurshid went for Siddiqui's book release... It has come to light that the Congress government even paid Rs 20 lakh to his NGO. This is a serious matter. I am not making accusations. But whatever is wrong has to be condemned," he toldHeadlines Today executive editor Rahul Kanwal.
Ramdev pointed out that a senior Congress leader had reacted to the attack on him by saying, "Jo jaise karega, wo waise bharega (As you sow, so shall you reap)". "This is proof enough that the Congress is encouraging such attacks on me," he said.
Referring to the notices from the Enforcement Directorate and Income-Tax department regarding foreign exchange violations, he said: "All the agencies are under their influence... It has been more than six months, but have they been able to find even one rupee of the illegal money?"
Accusing the Congress of misusing power, Ramdev backed Anna Hazare's call for a strong Lokpal. "An independent Lokpal should be appointed to eliminate corruption and the CBI's investigative wing should be under its purview," he said. He also denied having differences with Hazare. "I was always with him and will remain so to fight against corruption and black money," he said.
The yoga guru drew a parallel between the fight for democracy in the Arab world and his own campaign against black money. "In a country such as Libya, whose GDP is Rs 3.7 lakh crore, Gaddafi had more than Rs 10 lakh crore of assets. It was just one Gaddafi there, but we have many Gaddafis here," Ramdev said.
The yoga guru also had a word of advice for Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi. "We want to tell Rahul that when you go and eat at a poor man's house, he gets poorer. Do something that will make that poor man eat the kind of food you get."
