Clooney and Sahasranama: His Inter-religious dialogue and
Inculturation
Divine debaucheries? Francis Clooney S. J. has now shown his true
colours, though our Vaishnavite friends could not accept or believe
his intentions[1]. His reference to Prof. Chacko and my further dig
into his background show that such activities have already been going
on in Kerala and he has been aiding and abetting as a “consultant”
just like Bede Griffiths[2]. Incidentally, Clooney was also there in
August, before leaving for USA.
Bastardized music: There has been a “Christian Musicological Society
of India”[3], which is an international forum reportedly carrying out
“interdisciplinary research, discussion, and dissemination of
knowledge, on the music and dance of about thirty million Christians
in India, who belong to a diverse set of communities and linguistic
groups and follow a variety of liturgical traditions some of which
date back to the early Christian era”. Thus, the fraud is revealed
with unhistorical vulgarity. It goes on to say that, “The Society
hopes that such researches will draw attention to the lesser known
aspects of India in connection with the rest of the world”, as if the
Indian Christianity is so connected with the world!
The dubious “Kristu Sahasra Naamam”: There were people known as
“Jacobites” or otherwise, who were worshipping “Christna” and their
“books / bible” referred to him with the stories like “Bhagawatha
Purana”. When the Portuguese found them, they destroyed their books
and forcefully converted to Catholicism, however, they refused to
acknowledge to the Pope. Thus, to satisfy them, the fraudulent “Thomas
myth” stories were manufactured and circulated there. After many legal
wrangles with the Pope and then with Supreme court also, they tried to
settle with “thomas” masquerade.
Thus, as part of their gameplan, under “research”, they have given
their list of publications[4] and release of DVDs, CDs etc[5].

bootleggers, mystical hooligans, neo-global Aurangazebs, have been
carrying out such nasty acts.

[Typed by David C. Kandathil, 19th October 2008.]
Therefore, it is evident that Chacko had taken much efforts to compose
it. We do not know, but, they might have composed it in the same
manner M. S. Subbulakshmi recited or otherwise. However, it is evident
that it may be singing like |Suklam baradaram Vishnum sasivarna,
caturbujam….| and our gullible Hindus may buy and play it along with
the original “Vishnu Sahasra Namam”!
The Christian or Satanic art in India?: Then, the website gives the
following pictures / postcards depicting Jesus and Mary in different
Hindu forms: Note, the fellows who cry that Hindus worship ‘satan” and
so on have now started appropriating the same “satanic art” and
producing such “cross-breed” drawings and paintings crossing all
norms. It is not known how suddenly they become “devil worshippers”
and the Vatican allows such “demonism”! Why these fetishist fakes have
been after the hellish activities with iniquitous inculturators and
diabolical dialogues?
christ_guru
Christ, the Guru
Mark, the same guys who do not want to sing “Saraswati Vandana”, have
been misappropriating such Indian tradition and manufactured “Mother
of Wisdom”! And they hope that the idiotic Hindus and intelligent
Christians could worship such faked goddess and get the results what
they expect. Therefore, it is evident that these guys have no decency,
decorum or anything and they have nothing for their own. By stealing,
looting and appropriating others, how long they would survive like
this, like prostitutes?

Of course, the third one has been forgery and when it is subjected to
dating, it would get exposed. Like any other Christian medieval
forgery, it could only belong to a period later than 13th-1th century.
However, they claim that “mythical Thomas” himself drew it!
Inculration of dance[7]: The misuse of Indian dance, particularly
“Bharatanatyam” has been very significant. Again, remember that these
guys have been carrying out the propaganda that “Bharatanatyam” was
nothing but “temple prostitution”, the high caste Hindus make low
caste women as “public dancers” so that they can be used as
“prostitutes” and so on.
V Why then, these “spiritual bastards” indulge in such
“prostitution”?
V Do they want to produce “Church prostitution” that has been there
already under the guide of “Bhatratnatyam”?
At one side, they criticize that all these have been the works of
“Satan”, but note, only the member off “Society of Jesus” have been
engaged in such dubious activities.
Bharata Naatyam: Biblical themes through Bharata Naatyam (South Indian
classical dance) by Francis P. Barboza.
Mohiniyaattam: Life of Christ in Mohiniyaattam (a dance form of
Kerala), a novel program in Malayalam by Kalamandalam Radhika.

Periyappuram, CMI (1920-2001), and others.
Barbosa, S.J has been specializing Bharatnatyam and converting it into
Christianity[8]. Soon, he might declare that they only taught it to
the Indians.

the following personalities[9]:

cent. Originated word from latin – prostitut / prostituere with
explicit connotation – “expose publicly for sale” has the following
meanings[10]:
1. Noun – A person, specifically a woman, who engages herself in
sexual activity for payment.
2. Verb – Offer (someone) as a prostitute
In the same way, it is evident that these duplicities, fakers and
frauds have indulged in such “theological prostitution”. They too
disrobe and masquerade to lure their prospect clients, take them to
“different places”, “baptize” under water, give new cloths and money.
They have been circulating “Krishna and Christ” pictures, where both
descending on the earth with their hands clasping together! Would they
depict Mary and Mari in a similar posture? Or May with Shiva, as Shiva
is nothing but Jehovah according to their own interpretation!
Definitely, Clooney would kill them, if anybody indulges in such
experimentation. Otherwise, he may have to accept that his book is a
pious fraud or spiritual debauchery!
Divine pimps, Theological prostitutes and spiritual consortium: Thus,
they have been carrying out their activities without mincing the words
and expressing their intention also. After all SJs would come to you
for fun or enquire about your health or whether it is raining or not
at your place. Therefore, when Clooney like persons come next time, on
any pretext, meeting Indians, particularly, Hindus, they should pull
them up in public and expose their theological prostitution, divine
debauchery and spiritual wickedness all masqueraded under the white
robes, Harvard and Oxford scholarships and professorships!
Theist irreverence, Divine desecration and Spiritual profanity: At one
side, we find total degradation in their approach in their so-called,
inter-religious dialogue and inculturation activities, whereas on the
other side, their Theist irreverence, Divine desecration, Spiritual
profanity, Theological sacrilege, pious fraud etc., are more revealed.
Therefore, they should mend themselves, as otherwise, the Christianity
would be thrown out very quickly, when common Indians come to know
such theological frauds imposed on them.

Inculturation and the Hybrid Bible

It is not at all surprising for me to know that the Archbishop of
Mumbai lied, to editor, Hindu Voice while answering his question on
"The New Community Bible" , during the press meet held on 12th June
2009, 3.30 p.m at the famous Shanmukhanada Hall, Mumbai.
Just read the following quote.
"When the existence of the Church is threatened, she is released from
the commandments of morality with unity (of the Church) as the end;
the use of every means is sanctified, even cunning, treachery,
violence, simony, prison, death for all order is for the sake of
community and the individual must be sacrificed to the common good" -
Bishop of Verden, AD 1411.

Ends justify the means.

Definition of Inculturation
Inculturation, as propounded by the Vatican Council II Documents 1, is
the plan of Christians being within the folds of culture, tradition
and heritage of any people, posing as faithful devotees and declare
the "hidden Christ" at right moment, so that they (dubbed as heathens,
infidels & unbelievers) would become "Christians". Till such time,
they have to adapt and adopt their culture and related customs,
practices and manners. They even build Temple-like Churches, use Hindu
symbols and paraphernalia extensively and the Christian priests roam
as Hindu Sanyasis and Sadhus.
By the Vatican Directive Prot. N. 802/69 dated April 25, 1969, Twelve
Points of Inculturation were permitted in India. So far, the
"Inculturation" activities carried out by the Christian missionaries
among the Saivites have been the topics discussed in selected and
published books also. The author has come across a Jesuit, who has
been carrying out his activities among the Srivaishnavas for around 30
years. He is Professor FX. Clooney from Harvard University's Divinity
department, following the steps of Roberto de Nobili .
It is well known as to how Roberto de Nobili, a Jesuit came from Italy
claiming as a "Roman Brahmin", donned ochre robes, learned Indian
languages, forged "Yasur Veda", was tried by the Ecclesiastical Court
and finally died in Chennai itself without any news.
In 2000, after the Pope"s condemnation of practice of Yoga and other
Eastern Meditation methods by the Catholic priests and others, some
Christians have also started criticizing the inculturation programmes.
However, the ongoing activities by the inculturation and
Inter-religious / Faith groups / programs clearly prove that they are
pursued vigorously with the same old plans. Though, Fr. Bede Griffiths
has not openly recorded in his writings, Jesuits like Ignatitius
Hrudhayam, Francis X. Clooney, Anand Amaladas and others have revealed
that they follow Roberto de Nobili as their role model. ( A Robert De
Nobili was set up in the precints of the famous Loyola College,
Chennai). Thus, the succeeding Jesuits in India have taken his method
of "Inculturation" as a "role model" overtly and covertly. The
mushrooming Catholic Ashrams and increasing ochre rob clad Christian
priests and preachers amply prove their game-plan.
Gullible Hindus & Even more Gulliable Hindu Swamis
Gullible Hindus & Even more Gulliable Hindu Swamis are found often
helping Christians in their Inculturation directly and indirectly,
knowingly or unknowingly. They simply think that these Christians want
to know Hinduism and they are happy that the white skinned foreigners
too want to follow their religious practices.
Divide and rule
An example of Academic Iron Curtain
Dr. Bettina Baumer, a German is based in Varanasi. She is well versed
in Sanskrit. She has studied Kashmir Saivism also. She has ingratiated
herself with Hindu Scriptures. About 18 year ago (1991), she arranged
a conference in Dehradun. Selected Scholars about twenty in number
participated in this closed conference which lasted six days. The
theme of the conference was "Mysticism in Christianity and Saivism".
The Director of the International Institute of Saiva Siddhantham
Research located at Dharmapuram (Tamilnadu), presented a paper on
Saivite Mysticism. It was well received. Years later eventually
Dr.Betina Baumer, brought in a book form the papers presented. However
the paper on Saivite Mysticism did not find a place in the Printed
book. When confronted, by the Director of IISSRC, Dharmapuram, She
told him that English was so rich, and high, that even Englishmen,
were unable to follow it. However the reason given for omission of
this paper was, that the paper on Saivite Mysticism, was not received
in time. The fact is that the paper was handed over well on the very
day, after it was presented and discussed. It was also the best paper,
and appreciated by the participants, When confronted with this fact,
she only said "I am really sorry." When elegant papers on Hinduism are
presented, Christians in Hindu garb never fail to draw , an iron
curtain over them.
Misguided Sri Vaishnavas helped Father FX Clooney
The Vatican sees India as the last bastion of the sacred, and hence
seeks to infuse that spirit into Christianity in the West. Harvard
Professor FX Clooney says, he wants to infuse the inspiration that he
has derived from Nammalvar"s "Thiruvaimozhi" into Christianity.
Western values are derived from adventurism, pop music,
evangelizations, sports, commerce, politics, technology and humanism;
a fact which our policy makers should take note of. Inculturation
derived its inspiration from such frontier spirit.
Thomas Paine (1737- 1809) wrote:
"Everything in the Old Testament is perverted and distorted into
meanings never intended by the writers. The practice which the writers
of the books employ is not more false than it is absurd. They state
some trifling case of the person they call Jesus Christ, and then cut
out a sentence from some passage of the OT and call it a prophecy of
that case. But when the words thus cut out are restored to the places
they are taken from, and read with the words before and after them,
they give the lie to the New Testament."
Robert L. Johnson wrote in "The Bible"s Ungodly Origins".
"Many rank and file Christians sincerely believe the Bible is a direct
communication from God to man. I know I used to believe it was when I
was a Christian. And from recent conversations with many sincere
Christians I know this is currently true for many believers. Once it
is proven to our God-given reason that the Bible is strictly a
man-made collection of mythology the mind loses yet another shackle of
"revelation" and is soon on its way to full freedom and progress.
VOTED FOR BIBLE
The Bible was not handed to mankind by God, nor was it dictated to
human stenographers by God. It has nothing to do with God. In
actuality, the Bible was VOTED to be the word of God by a group of men
during the 4th century. "
THOMAS PAINE
Thomas Paine (1737- 1809) in his work titled The Age of Reason noted
that the very basis upon which Christianity was raised, on "flawed
methodologies," For example the taking of alleged Old Testament
prophecies and claiming that they referred to Christ who was born some
700 to 500 years after they had been uttered by the Hebrew prophets.
H.G. Wells
H.G Wells in the world famous, The Outline of History, Vol. I, pages
462-463, wrote: "It (the Council of Nicaea) marks the definite entry
upon the stage of human affairs of the Christian Church and of
Christianity as it is generally understood in the world to-day. It
marks the exact definition of Christian teaching by the Nicene Creed."
Constantine ordered and financed 50 parchment copies of the new "holy
scriptures". It seems with the financial element added to the picture,
the Church fathers were able to overcome their differences and finally
agree which "holy" books would stay and which would go and following
its true tradition the Indian Bible has been written with over one
hundred quotations from Hindu scriptures incorporated.
Late major Vedantam, who pioneered the investigation of Christian
misionaries in India over thirty years ago wrote:
"Theo centric and theocratic eclectics are dangerous as nuclear,
chemical and other warheads. The concept of "My God is your God, but
your God is No God" does not foster understanding, co-operation and
goodwill." The concept should be changed to "Your God is my God and my
God is your God" and accepted by all religions.
According to Professor John Crossan of Biblical Studies at DePaul
University ,USA .
"The Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (274-337 CE), who was the
first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity, needed a single canon
to be agreed upon by the Christian leaders to help him unify the
remains of the Roman Empire. Until this time the various Christian
leaders could not decide which books would be considered "holy" and
thus "the word of God" and which ones would be excluded and not
considered the word of God.
"Emperor Constantine, who was Roman Emperor from 306 CE until his
death in 337 CE, used what motivates many to action - MONEY! He
offered the various Church leaders money to agree upon a single canon
that would be used by all Christians as the word of God. The Church
leaders gathered together at the Council of Nicaea and voted the "word
of God" into existence. (I wish to thank Brian Show for pointing out
in his rebuttal to this article that the final version of the
Christian Bible was not voted on at the Council of Nicaea, per se. The
Church leaders didn"t finish editing the "holy" scriptures until the
Council of Trent when the Catholic Church pronounced the Canon closed.
However, it seems the real approving editor of the Bible was not God
but Constantine! and the Holy Bible has been once again tampered with,
in 2008 Edition - only this time with additions from Hindu Scriptures.
PLAGIARISM OF HINDU SCRIPTURES
Why would Christian Church copy Hindu Scriptures?
The answer is here. "Such, indeed, is the exuberance and flexibility
of this language (Sanskrit) and its power of compounding words, and
when it has been, so to speak, baptized, and thoroughly, penetrated
with the spirit of Christianity, it will probably be found, next to
Hebrew and Greek, the most expressive vehicle of Christian Truth." -
M. Monier - Williams (1861:54)
When we hear that at least a hundred quotation from Vedas, Yogasutra
and Upanishads have been incorporated into the Indian Bible published
in 2008. We are worried. We are also shocked when we hear the cross
behind the Jesus has been removed about which a leading archeologist
commented "this is tribanga pose of Sri Krishna and also resembles the
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in ecstacy". The pain and trauma in face of
Jesus has been erased and to be replaced with the picture of Joy found
in Krishna, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu or Nataraja.. The transformation is
not yet complete, and the words "he is dancing with joy has been
interpolated in the adjacent page" .
Hindu musical instruments used in religious Bhajans like Tambura is on
the right side , Tabla is on the left side and a violin is on the
upper left, dangles in the air, and there are twinkling stars all
around in the space. A pair of cymbals (jalra) is found at the Right
foot of Jesus. He has been adorned with a long Yahnopavitham, which
extends up to the left ankle, instead of the traditional one that
stops at the waist. We Hindus are legitimately worried at the blatant
plagiarism.
KALAKSHETRA CONTROVERSY
Whenever we hear the name "Golden Temple", we tend to think of the
beautiful Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. There is another Golden Temple
in South India - the great Nataraja temple at Chidambaram in Tamilnadu
that is associated with the cosmic dance of Nataraja. These are sacred
cultural and religious symbols of Bharat and of great importance and
immense sacrifices have been made by both Sikhs and Hindus
respectively to save and protect their holy symbols and sacred places.
Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai, an Institution established for
promoting Hindu Dance forms, is used for inculturation by its
Jew-Christian Director. She has removed the Nataraja and Ganesh
statues from its premises, which is certainly a matter of concern for
Hindus (Hindu Voice, Sept. 2007).
UPROOTING OF DANCE TRADITIONS
The classic Bharat Natyam cannot be serrated from Hinduism by Vatican
ideologues in India, as they have found it a useful tool of
evangelizations.
"(Christian) inculturation is cultural plagiarism (and) cultural
vandalism, with the idea of ultimate conquest says " Swami Devananda
.He says "We must be beware of Christians with their flattery and
money, taking over our sacred art forms such as Bharathanatyam, even
as they did to those of ancient Greece and Rome, and calling them
their own".
SWAMI DEVANANDA WARNS HINDUS
Drawing from his four decades of dealing with Christian Missionaries,
he gave this ominous warning to Hindus "Christianity is a parasitical
religion, which attaches itself to a host culture and feeds off it,
absorbing its spirit and lifeblood into itself until the host culture
dies and become Christian." This was articulated by Art of Living fame
Sri Sri Ravishankarji "How can you separate Bharata Natyam &
Hinduism?" and again echoed by Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswathy,
"Dance is Sacred, You cannot think of Dance without Nataraja", and now
Hindus have the double duty to defend their fellow religious people
and also their texts from poachers. (Hindu Voice, Sept. 2007).
INNER SIGNIFICANCE OF HINDU DANCE FORMS
"To understand the Hindu Concept of Cosmic Nataraja we have to
understand the Hindu Concept of dance itself. When it comes to natya
the greatest inimitable exponent, Balasaraswathy had stated that
Bharat Natyam is nothing but "Natya yoga". Bharat Natya originated
with Tapas and Nataraja himself is the supreme teacher of Natya and
codified by Bharatha Muni in his Natya Sastra. Bharat Natya is the
Supreme cultural Symbol of Perfection in dance form.
DANGERS OF COPYING RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS
When the most revered cultural symbol of Sikhs was threatened as
happened some months ago when the blue attire of their most revered
Guru Govind Singh was copied by Dera Sacha Sauda founder Baba Ram
Rahim, the entire sikh community of Punjab and Haryana were outraged .
They came to streets, and the two states came to a stand still. it was
a war like situation. This incident was an eye-opener, as to what the
consequences will be if religious sacred religious symbols and
traditions of one section of the population are misappropriated
illegitimately.
NEED FOR LEGISLATIONS
In the absence of any law whatsoever in India to protect the original
indigenous Cultures, heritage and knowledge- the entire gamut of Hindu
is under threat of unholy poachers. Its heritage and dominant concepts
and Ideas, Icons, Scriptural lore and Philosophical heritage. It is
well known that Basmati, Neem, Turmeric, Yoga and Bharat Natyam have
has now become endangered, and now it is the very Vedas, Yoga Sutras,
having been plagiarized and hence the crying need to enact strict
legislations.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERT RIGHTS OF HINDUS NEED TO BE PROTECTED
Food Items like Basmati, Neem and Turmeric have since been protected
after stiff legal battles in international courts. Now it is the turn
for the other rich symbols of Hindus, Buddhist, Sikh and Jaina
literature in books, sacred objects, icons, temples, sacred forests,
mountains, caves, rivers, religious spaces like bathing ghats, sacred
trees , groves, passages, ashrams, mutts, properties, lands endowed to
them, unique customs, leadership , sampradhayams, follower ship,
rituals, practices, worship methods, mantras, tantras, yantras,
associated with these traditions, padarthas, aushadas, pathways,
places, religious, cultural icons, art, architecture, music, dance,
folk art, instruments, dress, jewellery, festivals, methods, stories
and organizations, sanctity, even food and gastronomic effects, need
urgent documentation and immediate protection from our authorities.
We need acts like intellectual property rights , and copy right
provisions must be extended for Cultural objects and the Religious
knowledge and Religious space of Hindus must be protected as holy
sanctuaries; but before that Hindus have to be sensitized for the
great work that lies before them.
'Does Rajiv Malhotra need Purva Paksha for Hindu Christian Dialogue ?'
Dr. Vijaya Rajiva
One of the puzzling aspects of Rajiv Malhotra's use of Purva Paksha (the ancient Hindu method of debate) for his model of Hindu Christian Dialogue is the question of why he uses that phrase since his 'dialogue 'has very little resemblance to the classical Purva Paksha of Tarka Shastra (science of debate) used by the Hindu philosophers. The most celebrated of them was Adi Shankara and he used this method to 'defeat' his adversaries in argument, not appease them (as Malhotra does). Adi Shankara challenged the Mimamsa school and in particular the Buddhists. Purva Paksha consists of the statement of the adversary's arguments, then its REFUTATION and ending with stating one's own position.
In his talk/dialogue/discussion at Harvard University (USA) with Jesuit scholar and priest Dr. Francis Xavier Clooney, he presented his own arguments from his book Being Different, but did not criticise Dr. Clooney's arguments. As the present writer has stated in previous articles, even his use of the Socratic word 'dialogue' is misleading since the Socrates of the Platonic Dialogues (all 36 of them) was relentless in peeling off the layers of ignorance of his interlocutors. Understandably, Shri Malhotra is neither Adi Shankar nor Socrates (fair enough !) and Francis Xavier Clooney is a trained scholar, a formidable opponent in his own chosen field.
Clooney is also a dedicated Jesuit who follows the Vatican's agenda of Inculturation in India. Readers must be reminded that Inculturation stands for the Church's attempt to imitate/synthesise the culture and beliefs of Hinduism (or any other religion), not with a view to assimilate or integrate with it, but to subvert it from within, with the eventual aim of Conversion. While methods of conquest and violence were followed in past centuries, at present the favoured method of Inculturation (started simultaneously with conquest and violence centuries ago) is now being carefully revived. In India one significant aspect of Inculturation is the drawing of intellectuals and the elite into Dialogue. Malhotra is all too familiar with this phenomenon and has written about it in his book Breaking India (co authored with Aravindan Neelakandan who contributed significant portions of the book). Other writers on the contemporary Indian scene such as Radha Rajan, Sandhya Jain, Tamizhchelvan and George Thundiparambil have written about it. The journal Bharatabharati has a long list of articles on Hindu Christian Dialogue which are a must read of anyone who wants to understand the workings of Inculturation.
The most recent articles are 'Old Poisoned Wine in new Tetra Packs' by George Thundiparambil (in Vigilonline) and 'Inculturation and Indigenisation' by Tamizhchelvan (in Bharatabharati). The former article takes a critical look at Francis Xavier Clooney's activities in India and the latter article is a detailed historical survey of the topic of Inculturation and Indigenisation.
In this context it is puzzling as to why Malhotra chose to 'dialogue' with Clooney in the first place, even if it were to give exposure to his own newly published book Being Different to audiences. That could have been done independently of Clooney's presence. During the 'dialogue' with Clooney at Harvard university, Shri Malhotra was obligingly silent on key issues such as Clooney's flattery of him as being an updated , sophisticated (read superior) version of Swami Dayananda Sarasvati and Swami Vivekananda. Ofcourse, courtesy may have required Malhotra to remain silent during the guest's talk, but surely it was incumbent on him to have politely and courteously refused to don that mantle during the reply period ? For someone like Malhotra with an easy fluency of speech, this would not have been too difficult a task.
Instead, one saw the surprising spectacle of the author of Breaking India being unusually accomodating and in smiling fashion thank Dr. Clooney for his comments (the usual protocol) but making no reference to the Vivekananda comment or the great contributions made by Swami Vivekananda and Swami Dayananda Sarasvati to Hindu spirituality and Hindu nationalism, besides which his own contributions are relatively small. He had obviously accepted the mantle that Clooney had placed on him ! Both the spoken words and the body language indicated a genuine feeling of gratitude for the economiums being showered on him. Malhotra had at long last come in from the cold ! And what better interlocutor than a Catholic priest from the Western world to give his blessings ?
Some critics have taken Malhotra to task for intellectual dishonesty in using the phrase Purva Paksha without following up with the contents of this method. Here again, one wonders why Malhotra would have taken the risk of using that phrase. Surely as astute an author such as as he is, he could have anticipated criticism from knowledgeable people, and not counted only on camp followers to sustain him ? Another critic has referred to his misuse of Purva Paksha as his 'achilles heel.'
The arguments of his book Being Different could easily stand on their own as his own adventure of ideas, wherein he 'gazes' at the West and its thought, especially Christianity and proceeds to distance himself from that tradition by outlining the differences that separate Hindu philosophy and religion from the West . This would have been the honest thing to do and the sensible thing to do.
The answer to the question as to why he uses the phrase Purva Paksha it would seem, is to acquire a superficial image of allegiance to the traditional aspects of Hindu tradition, especially since he has often found fault with orthodox Hindu acharyas and gurus for their 'alleged' ignorance of Western thought. He has castigated them quite openly as burying their heads in the sand, while he himself is the proud product of east and west and therefore has the ability to take on the West (see his article 'The Westernised side of my background' in Sulekha.com, 2004, as well as comments elsewhere from time to time). The present writer has on many occasions pointed out that the aam admi Hindu and the traditional acharyas, gurus and maths are the backbone of our civilisation. Any chipping away at these is an unfriendly act which can only benefit the adversary.
While Malhotra may legitimately (in his mind) think of criticising the traditional acharyas for their ignorance (or so he thinks!) he himself has violated one important aspect of Hindu Purva Paksha, which is to 'defeat' the adversary, in this case Christianity as represented by Francis Xavier Clooney. Why does Shri Malhotra desist from this task ? Why does he in his new avatar present a truncated version of Purva Paksha at his discussion at Harvard ? The answer again is that he is hamstrung by his own newly found committment to that dubious entity called Hindu Christian Dialogue ? Simultaneously, he believes that using the phrase Purva Paksha gives him a certain respectability. In turn it provides the Jesuit scholar with a cover for his easy entry into his delicate agenda of Inculturation, and a certain respectability.
Should Hindus not sit up at this turn of events ?
