Trefoil as an Indian hieroglyph: association with veneration of ancestors, sacredness (Kalyanaraman, 2012)

Hieroglyph (Greek for "sacred carving") or hieroglyphics (τὰ ἱερογλυφικά [γράμματα]). Sacredness connoted by the temple-priest explains the occurrence of the trefoil glyph on the two bases discovered in Mohenjo-daro, for holding śivalinga. Veneration of pitr-s is an ancient Indian tradition. This is also paralleled in the Sit-Shamshi bronze from Susa on a Uruk statue and Egyptian hieroglyphs.
