CBI says no to Swamy's plea to probe Sonia in Bofors case
NEW DELHI: The CBI on Thursday turned down Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy's plea to probe Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's alleged role in the Bofors case, saying a closure report had been filed in the case and it could not be opened unless new evidence was presented.
Swamy had called on CBI director A P Singh to seek a probe. He told TOI over phone, "The Swedish investigating authorities had said that Indian agencies had failed to interrogate Sonia Gandhi and CBI records also say that Ottavio Quattrocchi was close to Gandhi. Quattrocchi was treated like a family member in the Gandhi family. I met the director to look into that."
However, a senior CBI official ruled out a fresh probe. "The case was exhaustively investigated by CBI and thoroughly examined in courts also. No connection whatsoever of Mrs Sonia Gandhi was found that warranted any form of examination," he said on condition of anonymity.
The official said the agency could not do anything unless the court asked it to.

Swamy’s complaint to CBI has slew of charges against Sonia
In bid to drag Congress president Sonia Gandhi to court, Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Thursday filed a complaint against her with the CBI demanding a probe into her “collusion with fixer Ottavio Quattrocchi and stashing of huge wealth in foreign banks”.

In a 232-page complaint submitted in person to the CBI Director, Swamy unleashed a series of allegations against Sonia. Swamy alleged “Sonia manipulated Rajiv Gandhi to favour Quattrocchi for pocketing commission in Bofors deal” and later provided escape route to the “Italian fixer”.
Citing the deposition of her personal security officer from SPG to CBI in 1997, Swamy alleged that Sonia along with Rajiv Gandhi had met Quattrocchi more than 40 times. Swamy also detailed more than 20 meetings between Sonia and Quattrocchi after Rajiv Gandhi’s death. He attached the testimony of Naresh Chandra Gosain, the PSO of Sonia, and Sasidharan, the driver of Quattrocchi before CBI.
“Thereafter when the arm of the law began reaching near him, he escaped from India in 1993, then from Malaysia in 2002 via rigged court judgment obtained by collusion with as yet unnamed parties and from Argentina - by CBI fudging the records - all achieved under the influence exerted by Sonia Gandhi under three different and consenting Prime Ministers,” Swamy alleged.
Swamy alleged that CBI was arm-twisted by the UPA Government, “under the control of Sonia”, to defreeze Quattrocchi’s bank accounts. He also leveled allegations of “illegal amassment of wealth and stashing of huge funds in tax havens” by Sonia and Rahul Gandhi by “misusing power”.
In his complaint to CBI, Swamy said the recent Supreme Court order empowers the petitioners to proceed without sanction for prosecution. He had one year ago filed sanction for prosecution to Prime Minister against Sonia Gandhi.http://www.dailypioneer.com/nation/45128-swamys-complaint-to-cbi-has-slew-of-charges-against-sonia.html
